Love stories reflect psychological life in amazing detail. We will use an archetypal perspective on Casablanca (1942) a classic romantic story, to discuss how unconscious issues are revealed in relationship. Both idealization and discontent can represent underlying issues. Our primary focus is on the inner life of the individual, not couple issues. This course explores how the symbolic journey is reflected in our longing for and experiencing romantic love.
The course is not just for psychotherapists. It is open to all those interested in archetypal perspectives. The lectures require no background in mythology, narrative theory, or Jungian psychology.
Recognize romantic ideas as psychological processes.
Detect how love stories can reflect stages of personality integration.
Discuss parallels between belief systems and relationship expectations.
Explain how to foster empathic responsiveness in relationships
Employ interventions that support reconciliation after relational injury
Identify methods to enhance moments of meaningful connection
